Coatbridge Nursery

Coatbridge Nursery

Firstly we would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your family from Kirktonholme Nursery in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire. We were established in May 2009 and offer full and part-time childcare to children aged six weeks to five years between the hours of 7.30 am and 6 pm Monday to Friday. When arriving at the Nursery you will be welcomed by happy, caring, responsive staff who ensure that every child is welcomed as an individual.

We are situated in a quiet area, just a short drive away from the buzz of everyday life. We are surrounded by a vast amount of greenery which offers children lots of freedom and space to explore. We are approximately 1 mile from Sunnyside train station and within easy reach of motorway access to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling. There is a car park at the front of the nursery, which makes it easy when dropping off and collecting your child. The Nursery employs a qualified cook who prepares a fresh, well balanced and nutritional 2 course lunch with dietary or cultural requirements being catered for. We also provide a morning and afternoon snack which is accompanied by a selection of fresh fruit, milk and water.

We are in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council to provide funded sessions for those children in their ante and pre-school years. We are also regulated by the Care Inspectorate, you can find our recent report at http://www.careinspectorate.com/index.php/care-services

Our Vision is to provide the best possible Early Learning and Childcare environment where we facilitate the best outcomes for children through an enriched environment led by a dedicated and skilled staff team.

We acknowledge that a child’s early years are the most fundamental in laying the foundation for future education and life, therefore we aim to underpin and support early years learning through attachment led practice. We aim to provide a home from home here at Kirktonholme where children feel safe and secure and confident in exploring the opportunities for learning they are provided with indoors and out.

We use the national guidance document, Pre-Birth to Three: Positive Outcomes for Scotland’s Children and Families for children under the age of three. Curriculum for Excellence is used with our children aged three to five years. This curriculum is aimed at children aged 3-18. Therefore, it is the same tool used in schools which offers a smoother transition from nursery to school. All children play a vital role in the planning process by sharing their views, interests and experiences.

We strive to create quality natural learning experiences within the Nursery as well as in our outdoor spaces.

We have an extensive grassed outdoor play area and woodland within the grounds. The children have the opportunities to participate in physical activities, play in the mud kitchen and explore the wonders of nature in our gardens and challenge their thinking through risky play opportunities.

Our baby room has its own soft grounded garden where they can access a variety of resources to stimulate their senses and promote their physical development whilst learning all about the outdoors in its most natural form.

Within the wooded environment, the children are given the opportunity to get involved in participating in real-life skills such as building dens and campfires using natural materials and real-life tools, climbing trees and assessing risks. Independence, self-esteem, confidence and communication skills are developed through hands-on learning. We currently have one qualified forest school assistant and two staff working towards their forest school leader qualifications.

We actively encourage continual communication between parents and the nursery to ensure the time your child spends at the nursery is a happy and enjoyable experience. Parents are kept informed through daily discussion with team members and via our App. We also have frequent updates through the use of our private Facebook page. It is important for us to develop excellent relationships between parents and staff, we want families to feel at ease when using the service and see us as their extended family as their child.

Reviews

We picked this nursery after recommendation from friends whose children attend other areas of Kirktonholme. We know a few family friends whose children have attended Coatbridge too. I am glad we have chosen for our little girl to come here. The staff are great, very welcoming and extremely helpful. In the short months she has attended here we have seen her come on leaps and bounds. She loves attending every Tuesday learning & playing with her friends. The girls here at Coatbridge do an fantastic job, they always keep us updated on any news/changes and updates of the fun they all have throughout the day. The nursery hours have been great for parents who work shift work like myself. We cannot thank the staff enough for their hard work & dedication.

As a new mum, I felt nervous leaving my baby to return to work. The staff were amazing and from the initial meeting the were all about her. I will never forget the first time we were introduced, the spoke to her first then me. This made me feel very relaxed and from that day onwards I knew I had made the right decision. My second baby now goes to this nursery even although it’s a 20 minute drive and I pass so many other nurseries on the way. All the management and staff are amazing and I have dealt with them all throughout my 2 daughters time at the nursery.
